StartUp Tulsa is a publicly and privately-funded entrepreneurial economy-building endeavor of the Tulsa Economic Development Commission with the goal of inspiring, rewarding and accelerating the growth of Tulsa’s next generation of entrepreneurs.
In 2006 the entrepreneurial landscape of Tulsa looked very different than it does today, with many business people looking outside of Tulsa for places to start their start-ups. As a response, community leaders, led by then Mayor Kathy Taylor, came together to create the Tulsa Entrepreneurial Spirit Award.
Introduced in 2007, the goal was nothing short of kick-starting a new entrepreneurial revolution within the Tulsa Community.
Today, the entrepreneurial landscape of Tulsa has developed into being recognized nationally as a leader at growing entrepreneurs. As a result of these efforts, an entrepreneurial ecosystem has emerged driving fresh economic growth and making the region and the state more competitive on a national level.
